St. John the Baptist Congregation was founded on December 9 2023, under the divine guidance and blessings of H.G. Dr.Thomas Mar Ivanios Metropolitan, whose vision laid the cornerstone of our spiritual journey.Rev. Fr. Rajesh. K John and Rev. Fr. Christopher Mathew were appointed by the Diocesan Metropolitan to lead and help grow the congregation. Our inaugural Holy Qurbana was celebrated on Saturday, December 9th, 2023, at St. Stephen’s Coptic Orthodox Church, Cypress, TX, by Very Rev. Sakhariah Ramban. From December 2023 to August 2024, services were held once a month at St. Stephen’s Coptic Orthodox Church, Cypress, TX. As our congregation continued to grow, we moved to Holy Qurbana twice a month. Starting September 2024, we rented St. Paul 's American Coptic Orthodox Church, Houston, TX and Holy Qurbana was held on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. With 10 families willing to become members of the church, we requested H G Dr. Thomas Mar Ivanios Metropolitan to grant us Parish status. As of June 10th, 2025, our congregation has been officially  granted Parish Status by the Diocese! We were blessed to begin Sunday services starting August 1st, 2025 under the leadership of Rev. Fr. P.M. Cheriyan as Vicar and Rev. Fr. Christopher Mather as Asst. Vicar.
